Combo Breaker!

27 September 2012

Sabrewulf wasn’t actually a werewolf — he just had body hair issues and no one had the heart to tell him.

I remember Killer Instinct somewhat vividly — it was 1994, and I spent way too much time in the mall arcade (these things that used to exist solely for gaming purposes in shopping malls, which were collection points for bored teenagers) playing it. I think the only game I’d play more that year was Area 51.

One of the may seeming innovations of that game was insane combos — chained strings of attacks that landed up to 80 times (at least, that was the most I ever saw). It was something that games before Killer Instinct hadn’t yet done, but it was by no means an instakill — thanks to the Combo Breaker.

A decent player could employ the combo breaker and get out of having the floor mopped with his character, unless his character was T.J. Combo, who deserved to have the crap kicked out of him any time he appeared on screen. He was kind of a jackass.

Anywho, all of this leads up to the admission that I feel like I’ve fallen into a bit of a rut lately, creatively speaking. I need to do something to break out of it, but I’m unsure as to what. What do you do as a combo breaker in your daily lives?
