Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays…

26 March 2012

Thing is, I like to complain about Mondays a lot. They signal the end of the weekend, the return to work, blah, blah.

Still, I tried something new for this Monday. I went to bed while it was still Sunday, and endeavored to make it into the office (an hour away) by 7:00. I got pretty close (7:05 or so), but that required a force-reset of my schedule, which… didn’t go well. I’m not entirely sure I slept last night, which is almost worse than knowing you didn’t sleep.

That got me thinking, though, of how we work ourselves into routines, consciously or not. An while routines can serve a useful purpose (setting aside time for all the things you need to get done, ensuring you get enough sleep, eating on a somewhat human schedule), I wonder if there’s not something to be gained by shaking them up periodically. I don’t mean just changing your routine when it stops working out as well — I mean changing it every so often just to change it.

I don’t have an answer to that one, though. I’ve been working with the same routine for years now. Check with me later in the week to see if I’ve gone insane yet.

Hey! Wanna win some cool stuff for the release of Supercritical, the second 47 Echo book? Here’s how.
