I got flamed, yo.

21 July 2011

Oh, boy, did I ever get some email last night.

About six or seven hours after yesterday’s post, an email popped up in the Twitter Novel Project box. Now, I’m not going to call out who it was from, but basically the author took a bit of umbrage with the “you can afford the Internet, so your life’s not so bad” sentiment at the end of the post. He went on to say that I have no idea what anyone else’s life is like, and I should in no way tell anyone how they should live their lives.

Thing is, I agree with him. I’m not exactly Captain Has-His-Shit-Together, and I don’t claim to be. I’m some guy who writes silly little stories that you may or may not dig. I’m not your life coach, your Kindergarten teacher, or your dad. I’m not the boss of you, and I’m not into telling anyone how to live.

But I am into sharing my thoughts and opinions on this blog. I advocate things I think are cool — authors like Joe Peacock or Shirin Dubbin or Cody James, indie publishers like Eight Cuts Gallery Press, off-brand movies like Zone Troopers. I share my thought processes on writing, working, and living.

Thing is, I don’t ask that anyone agree with me. I often ask questions at the end of each post because I’m interested in others’ thoughts, too. I openly encourage people to disagree with me and tell me I’m full of shit — I don’t believe, necessarily, that I’m right about anything.

If something you read here resonates with you, and you feel you can use it in some way, that’s awesome. If not, that’s awesome, too. These are just the ramblings of some random guy, so treat them as such. As Bruce Lee said, “Accept what is useful, reject what is useless.”

Don’t take me too seriously, folks. I mean, I know I don’t.

I won’t say it’s *good*, but I will say I liked it quite a lot. For such a low-budget film with a silly premise, its creators really did put in some impressive work. And I just found out recently that the guys responsible for “Zone Troopers” wrote the screenplay for “The Rocketeer,” which is pretty cool.

    Weak sauce.

The comment Shawn made in yesterday’s entry was about as innocuous as you can get, especially considering how he was counting his blessings in the immediately preceding paragraph. IMO, anyone who gets pissed off at him about something as harmless as that was looking for a reason to be pissy in the first place. And that’s sad.

My goodness, if you want to take umbrage at someone telling you how to live your life, there are myriad politicians, celebrities, pundits, relgious zealots who are more deserving of your ire than a guy who writes in his spare time to entertain the rest of us.
