“See You In The Car.” — Milhouse

1 February 2011

I mentioned military yearbooks in my Carina Press post for the release of 47 Echo, and I was kind of surprised that not many people knew they were out there. I knew of military yearbooks before I was aware of high school ones — that’s just how I was raised, I guess.

Still, as some of you might not be familiar with this awesomeness, I present you with one of the jewels of my collection (which has been used for more than a fair amount of research), the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit yearbook:

26MEU Cover

Gold-leaf, just like high school.

The table of contents is a bit different from high school, though.

26MEU Carrier

Despite the awful purple background, this manages to be awesome

26 MEU Combat Camera

The men responsible for the yearbook, and any kickass photos inside. Also, one is named Cpl. Rock. How badass is that?

And finally, the most badass food service unit anywhere.

I love these yearbooks more than I probably should. They’re a glimpse into a year in the life of our men and women serving the country, and I think everyone should take a look through one if they have the chance.
